Manifesto
A Quiet Manifesto
About This Work
LMD Fibre Arts makes small-batch knitwear in Cornwall, working slowly by hand with British wool.
Most pieces use lambswool from family-run Scottish mills such as J.C. Rennie — wool spun with generations of knowledge and care. Some limited collections use fleeces from sheep I know personally: hand-processed, produced in small runs, and closely connected to place.
Each piece is shaped through time and attention, not speed or trends. The making process is deliberate and grounding, and that intention carries into the finished work.
The Materials
Wool matters here. Not just any wool — but wool chosen for warmth, character, and how it actually feels to live with. Natural fibres that breathe, soften with wear, and last.
There is natural variation in handmade work. Subtle differences in tone and texture are not flaws; they are part of what makes each piece individual. If you are looking for factory uniformity, this may not be the right fit.
Who This Is For
This work is for people who value:
- Quality over quantity
- Texture and tactility over polish
- Things made to keep, not to replace next season
It suits those who understand that good work takes time — and that paying fairly for that time matters. People who recognise the difference between something made with care and something made quickly.
What to Expect
Most pieces are made to order or produced in very small batches. Timelines are realistic rather than rushed — typically around two weeks.
Communication is straightforward and clear. I will tell you what is possible and what is not, what timelines look like, and what to expect.
Orders are handled with care. This is a small operation — just me — working at a sustainable pace.
What This Isn’t
This is not fast fashion.
This is not mass production.
This is not a custom-on-demand service with endless options.
This is not always-available or next-day delivery.
If you need something urgently, want constant availability, or prefer extensive customisation, this may not be the right match — and that is genuinely okay. Different work suits different people.
Why This Exists
Because making things well matters.
Because not everything needs to be hurried.
Because wool, worked with care and attention, creates pieces that are grounding to make and good to live with.
This work exists to be sustainable — for the person making it, and for the people who wear it.
